Odfjell Vineyards - Orzada Carignan 2016
Odfjell's quest is to make wines that are a true expression of the terroir. Our low yielding vines are taken care of with great care. We harvest manually to make sure that the bunches arrive in the cellar as intact as possible.
We started planting our vines in Maipo in 1994. Today, after 20 years, we have 85 hectares in this valley. Including our Cauquenes, Lontué and Colchagua vineyards, we have a total area of 115 hectares, planted with a wide range of grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenère, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and even old Carignan vines. in Cauquenes.
Odfjell is committed to being a leader in the ecological management of the vineyard, and we are determined to improve the image and practices of viticulture in Chile. The aim of this work is to produce the best possible wines while maintaining our long term commitment to sustainable agriculture and environmental winemaking practices. For this reason our vines are 100% organic and we have recently started biodynamic agriculture .
Location of the vines: Valle Maule (Cauquènes, vines 60 to 100 years old)
Vinified in a gravity-fed and eco-responsible cellar
Tasting: the color is very dark garnet, but still translucent. The nose is a hymn to blackcurrant in all its forms: leaf, bud, berry, jelly, cream ... with lightly toasted spices in the background and a hint of mint. The palate is slender, fresh, with ripe material of impressive density - but with a velvety touch, without harshness. The finish is powerful, chewy, with assertive (but civilized) tannins, always with omnipresent cassis and notes of noble aging.
