Domaine de Beudon - Riesling X Sylvaner 2007
Domaine de Beudon is located in Valais, Switzerland. It is a wine estate established on a steep rock outcrop 305 meters above the bottom of the valley. The vineyards are only accessible by cable car, a private configuration belonging to the Domaine de Beudon, or by foot via steep mountain tracks. It is the only producer of wine in this place and the wines of the domain are produced in tiny quantities, from a few hectares of vines. The Domaine de Beudon has belonged to Jacques Granges and his wife Marion since 1971. They have worked tirelessly to remove all chemicals from their vineyards and cellars, and have now successfully transitioned to full biodynamic viticulture. Beudon wines very rarely arrive outside Switzerland and on the international market.
Riesling X Sylvaner is made from Müller-Thurgau, long regarded as a cross between the Riesling and Sylvaner grape varieties (genetic tests have established that it is a cross between Riesling and Madeleine Angevine). Part of the white grapes are pressed in Beudon and then descended in a pipeline to the foot of the cable car where they are stored in a tank before being transferred to a winery. The vinification is natural, without inputs and the aging is made without sulfur or wood.
Grape variety: 100% Müller-Thurgau
