Château SOCIANDO-MALLET 2017
Château Sociando-Mallet is located in the town of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, north of the Saint-Estèphe appellation in Bordeaux. It was bought by Jean Gautreau in 1969 while he was looking for a wine property for sale for one of his Belgian clients of his négoce company. The Château still belongs to the Gautreau family and is today managed by Sylvie Gautreau, the only daughter of Jean and Colette. The vineyard covers 110 hectares, of which 85 hectares are planted with vines. The grape variety is almost evenly split between Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with a small proportion of Cabernet Franc.
The 2017 vintage is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The vinification is done in a traditional way, and only with indigenous yeasts. During fermentation, daily pumping over is carried out. The vatting period lasts on average 25 to 30 days then the wine is put in vat for a malolactic fermentation. After this fermentation, the batches intended for the Sociando-Mallet are aged in new French oak barrels for around 12 months.
