Domaine des Sables Verts - Saumur Blanc 2019
The Domaine des Sables Verts is located in Varrains, in the heart of the Saumur Champigny appellation in the Loire Valley . The estate was taken over in 2019 by Caroline Meurée and Hervé Malinge . The vineyard extends over 16.50 hectares and 5 municipalities: Varrains, Chacé, Saumur, Souzay-Champigny and Parnay. The 33 plots offer a diversity and complementarity of terroirs which is part of an ecological approach and respectful of the environment. Part of the vines are grown on “green sand” soils ; sands deposited in the secondary era, more or less calcareous and rich in glauconium. These green sands bring freshness and concentration to the Cabernet Francs.
Saumur Blanc is made from 30-year-old Chenin Blanc vines, grown on the “Bonneveaux”, “Perruchers” and “Elettes” plots. Part of the wine is fermented and aged in barrels , lightly toasted, for 4 months with regular stirring. The other part is fermented and aged in stainless steel vats . The assembly of the two is carried out afterwards, in mid-January.
Grape variety: 100% Chenin Blanc
