Alvaro Palacios - Les Terrasses - Double Magnum 2003
Alvaro Palacios is a wine producer famous for its Garnacha-based wines (Grenache Noir) from Priorat, in Spain. Founded in 1990 by Alvaro Palacios himself, the estate has been at the forefront of Priorat's fame as one of the most prestigious wine regions in Spain. Alvaro Palacios grew up in Rioja where his family makes wines under the name Palacios Remondo. After working in Pétrus and Pomerol, he bought his own vineyard in the then obscure region of Priorat, where steep slate-based hillsides covered with gnarled vines had been forgotten in the second half of the 20th century. Alvaro Palacios quickly expanded his estate and now owns several wineries in the area. In his wines, Grenache is predominant but is often complemented by Cariñena, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Finca Dofí cuvée comes from a single vineyard, while Gratallops, Les Terrasses and Camins del Priorat all come from several vineyards in Priorat.
Les Terrasses is a blend of Garnacha (55%), Carignan (44%) and 1% of white grape varieties (Garnacha Blanca, Macabeo and Pedro Ximénez). It comes from 80 old vineyards in eight municipalities. The wine was aged for 12 months in barrels.
