Domaine des Sables Verts - Les Rouères 2020
The Domaine des Sables Verts is located in Varrains, in the heart of the Saumur Champigny appellation in the Loire Valley . The estate was taken over in 2019 by Caroline Meurée and Hervé Malinge . The vineyard extends over 16.50 hectares and 5 municipalities: Varrains, Chacé, Saumur, Souzay-Champigny and Parnay. The 33 plots offer a diversity and complementarity of terroirs which is part of an ecological approach and respectful of the environment. Part of the vines are grown on “green sand” soils ; sands deposited in the secondary era, more or less calcareous and rich in glauconium. These green sands bring freshness and concentration to the Cabernet Francs.
Les Rouères is made from 40-year-old Chenin Blanc vines, grown on the “Roères” plot defined by clay-limestone soil. The manual and morning harvest took place on September 7, 2020. After pressing, fermentation and aging were carried out in Vicard wooden vats of 12 hectoliters and two 'Atelier Center France' barrels of 4 hectoliters, for 12 months on the lees. . The wine was bottled on November 22, 2021, with only a few grams of sulfur before bottling. It has an aging potential of 5 to 8 years.
Grape variety: 100% Chenin Blanc
