Domaine Fumey Chatelain - Le Bastard - Trousseau 2019
Domaine Fumey Chatelain is located in Montigny-lès-Arsures, in the Jura. It was created by Raphaël Fumey and Adeline Chatelain in 1986. At the time, they started producing and selling grapes with 56 acres of vines. In Spring 1991, due to a terrible frost episode, they had so few grapes left that they decided to vinify it themselves and then signed their first vintage. They develop the operation by borrowing unused cellars and barrels from other winegrowers before settling in a ruined farmhouse. Today, the estate has 17 hectares of vines and their son, Marin, after having vinified several times in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa is joining them. The estate is currently in sustainable cultivation but intends to begin a conversion to organic farming in the coming years.
Le Bastard is made from Trousseau à la Dame, from the localities Aux Loges and Aux Barbi whose soil is made up of schistose marl. The vines, whose average age is 20 years, are exposed to the south-west. The grapes are destemmed then the maceration lasts 20 days. The wine is aged for 11 months in vats.
Grape variety: 100% Trousseau à la Dame
