Domaine Joseph Chamonard - Fleurie 2020
the Domaine Joseph Chamonix is a small farm located in the heart of the Beaujolais and managed by Geneviève and Jean-Claude Chanudet (aka "Le Chat"). The domain is established on the appellations of Morgon and Flowery since the 18th century, and the age of the vines is between 60 and 90 years old. The terroir is made up of pink granite, decomposed rocks and friable shale, facing south. The Morgon plots (Les Chênes, Corcelette, Les Grands Cras and Le Colombier) are located in the commune of Villié-Morgon. Domaine Chamonard also cultivates half a hectare of vines on the most beautiful hill in Fleurie, 400 meters above sea level.
The vines are cultivated in organic farming , according to respect for the environment: without chemicals, manual harvesting with light plowing of the soil. In the cellars, only indigenous yeasts are used during fermentation and human intervention is minimal, in the same vein as natural wines .
the Flowery comes from half a hectare of Gamay vines planted in the sector of La Madone , which takes its name from the statue of the Virgin at the top of the chapel which overlooks the hill of Fleurie located 400 meters above sea level. Vinification takes place in whole clusters to get a carbonic maceration in concrete tanks. Fermentation begins with natural yeasts and then undergoes a slight addition of sulphites. Breeding lasts 10 to 12 months in thunderbolts of several passes. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration. For this cuvée, viticulture is in non-certified biodynamics .
