Lagg - Inaugural Release - Batch 1 - 50%
The Lagg Distillery is in the south of the Isle of Arran , Scotland . It was created by Isle of Arran Distillers based in Lochranza, in the north of the island. While Arran's classic style of whiskey is unpeated, the Lochranza distillery distills a small amount of peated malt each year for its Machrie Moor expression. By building the Lagg Distillery in November 2017, Isle of Arran Distillers is moving all peated whiskey production to its new site. The distillery is dedicated to peat exploration and works with various yeast strains and barley varieties in order to experiment with different aspects of the production process. With 140 apple trees already planted on the surrounding estate, Lagg will also produce its own cider and apple brandy, rather than following the rest of Scotland's 'artisanal' distilling movement and producing Gin. The Lagg distillery collected its first distillate on March 19, 2019 at 2:35 p.m., and filled its first cask on April 10: a Sherry butt reserved exclusively for members of the Lagg Cask Society.
This first edition of Single Malt Lagg is made from the Concerto variety of barley. The peat comes from the northeast of Scotland. Resulting from a double distillation, the whiskey is aged in first fill ex-Bourbon barrels . 10,000 bottles were produced.
