PODERI ALDO CONTERNO - Quartetto Rosso 2018
Poderi Aldo Conterno is located in Bussia de Monteforte d'Alba, Piedmont , Italy . Aldo Conterno, who died in 2012, has been called a Barolo modernist , and this has often been said in comparison to his brother Giovanni of the staunchly traditional Giacomo Conterno estate. The winemaking combines the modern and the traditional with Barolo wines aged for a long time in large oak barrels from Slavonia and French barriques are also used in the range. He bought the Favot estate and founded the "Poderi Aldo Conterno" winery in 1969 after 8 years of management at his brother's estate. The 25-hectare estate is now run by his three sons: Franco, Stefano and Giacomo . Three crus are found on the estate; Romirasco, Cicala and Colonnello.
Quartetto is a blend of Nebbiolo, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Syrah from several vineyards in Bussia. The grapes are left to macerate in stainless steel vats for 8 to 10 days. The wine is first aged in stainless steel vats before being transferred to oak barrels for a few additional months.
