Pieropan - Soave Classico - Calvarino 2020
Pieropan is in the denomination of Soave , Veneto, Italy . Leonildo Pieropan established the estate at Palazzo Pullici in 1880 and since then successive generations of the Pieropan family have taken responsibility for the estate and its three organically grown vineyards: Calvarino, La Rocca and Garzon. An additional cellar was built in 2005 at Villa Cipolla Pieropan in Tregnago (Verona) in order to produce its Valpolicella Superiore and Amarone della Valpolicella wines. Pieropan also makes a sweet white wine Recioto di Soave from Garganega grapes grown in the Soave Classico region, as well as a sparkling rosé from the Corvina grape variety and an Extra Virgin olive oil.
The Calvarino vineyard is located in the heart of Soave and represents the old family estate, bought in 1901. The name Calvarino derives from "little calvary", due to the difficulty of working the land. It is a blend of Garganega (70%) and Trebbiano di Saove (30%) . The bunches are destemmed and then the berries are pressed in an oxygen-free environment. The juice is fermented at low temperature in vitrified cement vats . The aging lasts 12 to 15 months on fine lees.
