Agricola Punica - Samas 2021
AgriPunica (Agricola Punica spa) is a Sardinia -based winery, formed as a joint venture between the Sardinian cooperative Cantina di Santadi and Tenuta San Guido , the producer of one of Italy's most famous wines, Sassacaia. It produces two red wines made from Carignano grapes and a single white wine. The business was launched in 2002, after renowned Italian winemaker Giacomo Tachis became interested in Sardinia and persuaded Sassacaia winemaker Sebastiano Rosa to purchase land there. In collaboration with Cantine Santadi, Rosa bought two estates, Barrua and Narcao, located in the southwest of the island.
The properties belong to the DOC zone of Carignano del Sulcis. However, the wines are made under the Isola dei Nuraghi IGT to give more options when it comes to blending.
Samas is a blend of Vermentino (80%) and Chardonnay (20%) . The grapes are pressed in whole bunches and transferred to cold inert conditions. The controlled fermentation at 16°C is prolonged by keeping the wine on the lees for 40 days , with stirring. The wine of each variety is aged in stainless steel vats for 2.5 months . The wines are blended and aged for 3 months in small concrete vats .
