Agricola Punica - Barrua 2018
AgriPunica (Agricola Punica spa) is a Sardinia -based winery, formed as a joint venture between the Sardinian cooperative Cantina di Santadi and Tenuta San Guido , the producer of one of Italy's most famous wines, Sassacaia. It produces two red wines made from Carignano grapes and a single white wine. The business was launched in 2002, after renowned Italian winemaker Giacomo Tachis became interested in Sardinia and persuaded Sassacaia winemaker Sebastiano Rosa to purchase land there. In collaboration with Cantine Santadi, Rosa bought two estates, Barrua and Narcao, located in the southwest of the island.
The properties belong to the DOC zone of Carignano del Sulcis. However, the wines are made under the Isola dei Nuraghi IGT to give more options when it comes to blending.
Barrua is AgriPunica's great wine, made from 85% Carignano, with some Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot . It is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels , 30% of which are new. The wine is aged for 6 months in the bottle before being marketed.
Grapes: 85% Carignano, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot
