Alvaro Palacios - Camins del Priorat - Blend 2021
Alvaro Palacios is a wine producer famous for his Garnacha (Grenache Noire) based wines from Priorat , Spain . Founded in 1990 by Alvaro Palacios himself, the estate has been at the forefront of Priorat's fame as one of Spain's most prestigious wine regions. Alvaro Palacios grew up in Rioja where his family makes wines under the name Palacios Remondo .
After working in Pétrus and Pomerol, he bought his own vineyard in the then obscure Priorat region, where the steep slate-based hillsides covered in gnarled vines had been forgotten in the second half of the 20th century. Alvaro Palacios quickly expanded his estate and now owns several vineyards in the region. In its wines, Grenache is predominant but is often complemented by Cariñena, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Finca Dofí cuvée comes from a single vineyard, while Gratallops, Les Terrasses and Camins del Priorat all come from several Priorat vineyards.
Camins del Priorat 2021 is a blend of Garnacha (40%), Cabernet Sauvignon (21%), Merlot (18%), Cariñena (15%) and Syrah (6%) . The grape varieties used to make Camins del Priorat come from eight different Priorat vineyards , located on steep slate licorella terraces. The fruit is completely destemmed and gently crushed before maceration for 20 to 30 days. Vinification takes place in stainless steel vats, tuns and concrete vats. The aging lasts 4 to 6 months in barrels and tuns .
