Horsepower - The Tribe Vineyard - Syrah 2018
Cayuse Vineyards is located in the Walla Walla Valley in Washington State and extends partly into the northeast corner of Oregon. The story began near the village of Charly-sur-Marne in Champagne, where a very young Christophe Baron roamed the family vineyard with his father and grandfather. He was the youngest of the centuries-old Champagne house, Baron Albert, and his ancestors had been working the land since 1677. After studying viticulture in Champagne and Burgundy, Christophe realized that he was not yet ready to enter the family business and give in to the desire to travel. An unexpected winemaking internship brought Christophe to the Walla Walla Valley for the first time in 1993. Afterwards he traveled the world gaining more experience in Australia, New Zealand, Romania and Oregon. Christophe had returned to Walla Walla for a strictly social visit, and was walking in the countryside with a friend. As they were driving on the Oregon side of the Walla Walla Valley, he saw a field strewn with stones: Christophe decided to buy the property and planted a vineyard there in 1997. He called it Cayuse Vineyards after a Native American name derived from the French word "cailloux". Today, Cayuse operates five vineyards (Cailloux, Coccinelle, En Cerise, En Chamberlin and Armada) spread over 19 hectares and all wines are created from the fruit of the estate. From the beginning, the vineyards have been farmed organically, and in 2002 Cayuse became the first estate in the Walla Walla Valley to fully implement biodynamic agriculture .
Horsepower Vineyards is another project by Christophe Baron, also located in the Walla Walla Valley. Horsepower wines are created from four vineyards; On Echalas, The Tribe, High Contrast and Fiddleneck. Six horses and their teams cultivate widely spaced 19th century-style vineyards that only they can roam, using specialized farming equipment created by a blacksmith in Burgundy, France.
The Tribe Vineyard is a 1.2 hectare vineyard planted with Syrah .
Grape variety: 100% Syrah
