Luigi Baudana - Barolo Baudana 2018
Luigi Baudana is located in Serralunga d'Alba, in Piedmont , Italy . It is one of the smallest active wineries in Serralunga d'Alba and the entire Barolo region, with just 2.6 hectares cultivated in some of the best vintages in the village. For more than 30 years, Luigi and his wife Fiorina carried on the family legacy in Serralunga d'Alba. In January 2009, Luigi and Fiorina entrusted the Vajra family with a unique mission: to be the guardians of their name, their history and their vineyards.
Baudana is located on the western slope of Serralunga. The floor is a composition of Marne di Sant'Agata mixed with Formazioni di Lequio: white on the surface and distinctly blue below. The Baudana vineyards encompass 50-year-old Nebbiolo vines located 350 meters above the sea. Harvesting usually takes place the third week of October. Fermentation starts quite quickly and takes place for about 30 days, followed by another 10 days of maceration. A Slavonian cask is used to ferment most of the grapes, with a few stainless steel tanks used if needed. Gentle punching down and pumping over are the only extraction operations during maceration. The wine is racked into oak barrels after malolactic fermentation and spends an average of more than 32 months in large Slavonian oak barrels .
Grape variety: 100% Nebbiolo
