Old Château Saint André - Magnum 2018
Vieux Château Saint-André is located in Montagne Saint-Emilion , in the Bordeaux wine region. He belongs to the Berrouet family . The Berrouet brothers, Jeff & Olivier, are the craftsmen of the family vineyards whose story begins in the 1970s when their father Jean-Claude began looking for a few hectares of beautiful vines on the heights of Saint-Emilion. Responsible for all the vineyards of the Moueix family, Jean-Claude embarked on the adventure of Vignobles Berrouet with his first hectares near the church of Saint-Georges, on clay-limestone soils of Montagne Saint-Emilion. It will then take the name of Vieux Château Saint-André which was attached to these plots, but which was no longer exploited. The estate will cover 4.5 hectares in 1979, then will be completed in 1982 by 1.5 hectares with Château Samion in the Lalande de Pomerol appellation, bringing the vineyards to a size of 6 hectares until 2003. Since 2002, it has been Jeff , the youngest son who manages the various family vineyards while benefiting from the wise advice of his father and the support of his brother Olivier.
Vieux Château Saint-André is a blend of Merlot (85%) and Cabernet Franc (15%) , grown under sustainable farming methods . The extraction is gentle, the vatting moderate and the wine kept in vats until the end of malolactic fermentation. Blending is done before barreling and aging lasts a year or more with a rather low proportion of new wood (15 to 20%).
