Chateau LATOUR 2015

Chateau Latour   is one of the most famous wine producers in   Bordeaux , and the world. It is located in the southeast corner of the municipality of   Pauillac   on the border of Saint-Julien, in the Médoc region.   Classified Premier Cru   in the Bordeaux classification of 1855, it became one of the most sought after and expensive wines on the planet. The site has been occupied since 1331, with a fort and garrison to guard the estuary. Several small holdings began to cultivate vines and the wine of the site was recognized by Montaigne as early as the 16th century. The original tower no longer exists; the famous tower shown on the label was designed as a dovecote and built around 1620. The development of Latour as a single estate came with the start of a long, unbroken period of connected family ownership, based around the name Ségur, also associated with Mouton and Calon-Ségur. It began in 1670 and lasted 290 years although after the French Revolution Latour was divided and not fully reunited until 1841. The castle is currently owned by   Francois Pinault   and is part of his   Artemis Group . Typically for the region, Cabernet Sauvignon dominates in the vineyard, representing around 80% of the plantations. Merlot makes up most of the rest, and there are also small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The great wine comes only from the vineyard plots surrounding the château and appearing on the 1759 plan of the estate. Latour produces two other wines: Les Forts de Latour and   Pauillac de Latour , both from younger vines.

The Grand Vin 2015 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (90.5%), Merlot (8.5%), Cabernet Franc (0.5%) and Petit Verdot (0.5%) . The 2015 Bordeaux vintage is considered exceptionally good . Spring was milder than usual, with a hot month of April and a mini heat wave in early May, which contributed to successful flowering. Rain fell after flowering, bringing welcome relief to the vine. July remained warm and finally the rain came in early August, but the downpours did not stop. From what had been one of the driest summers in recent history, August then turned out to be one of the wettest.

Grapes: 90.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8.5% Merlot, 0.5% Cabernet Franc, 0.5% Petit Verdot
