Yarra Yering - Dry Red n°2 2015
Yarra Yering is located in the Yarra Valley , Australia . The estate was founded in 1969 by Doctor Bailey Carrodus , the first to explore in depth the potential of this wine growing region. After completing his degree in horticulture at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand, he worked for a time as a scientific consultant to the New Zealand Ministry of Agriculture. He completed a second degree, this time in winemaking at Roseworthy Agricultural College in South Australia, where he also taught for a time before completing his Doctor of Philosophy for research in plant physiology at Queens College, University of Oxford in 1965. He produced his first vintage in 1973: “Dry Red Wine No.1”, a Bordeaux-inspired blend and “Dry Red Wine No.2”, a blend from the northern Rhône.
Dry Red Wine No.2 is a blend of Shiraz, Mataro, Viognier and Marsanne . After the manual harvest, the grapes are transferred to a sorting table, then destemmed directly into half-ton open fermentation vats. A few stalks are added to the fermenters to provide structure. The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, 30% of which are new.
