Jean de Pontac, civil clerk of the Parliament of Bordeaux receives, by his marriage, with Jeanne de Bellon, lands at the place called Haut-Brion in Pessac; he structures the terroir of the estate before building the château, whose silhouette adorns the labels of the bottles. Under the impetus of his numerous descendants, wine became the favorite of the English. In 1801, Talleyrand acquired Haut-Brion. A man of taste, he received princes and rulers from all over the world.
