Château de Beaucastel 2021
Château de Beaucastel is located in Courthézon, in the Southern Rhône . It is located in the northeast of the appellation, just southeast of the town of Orange. There are approximately 110 hectares in one piece planted with vines, three quarters of which are intended for the production of AOC Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines. The 13 historic grape varieties of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation are grown on the property. The terroir is the archetype of the great terroirs of Châteauneuf-du-Pape: rolled pebbles on the surface, clay, sand and limestone in depth. The vines are old and the organic cultivation practiced for more than 50 years has allowed their roots to go deep. The Domaine belongs to the Perrin family and is today managed by the fifth generation. They were pioneers in the innovative approach to organic farming in 1950, then biodynamic in 1974.
Château de Beaucastel 2021 is a blend of Grenache (30%), Mourvèdre (30%), Syrah (15%), Counoise (10%), Cinsault (5%) and the other authorized grape varieties of the appellation (Vaccarèse, Terret Black, Muscardin, Clairette, Picpoul, Picardan, Bourboulenc, Roussanne) . Each grape variety is picked separately by hand. Vinification is done in truncated conical wooden vats for the reductive grape varieties (Syrah and Mourvèdre) and in traditional concrete and enameled sandstone vats for the oxidative grape varieties (all others). At the end of the malolactic fermentations, the Perrin family proceeds to blend the different grape varieties, then the wine will age in oak barrels for 12 months before bottling.
