Descendants of J. Palacios - Petalos 2021
Descendientes de J. Palacios is located in the Bierzo region, Spain . The estate was founded in 1998, the result of a collaboration between Alvaro Palacios , renowned producer from Priorat, and his nephew Ricardo Perez Palacios . Bierzo is a hilly region and the Palacios vineyards are located on steep hillsides with old, low-yielding, goblet-trained vines offering concentration to the flagship grape variety; la Mencia. The vines are spread over 200 plots in the town of Corrulón, representing approximately 30 cultivated hectares. The estate is a tribute to Alvaro's father and Ricardo's grandfather, who died in early 2000.
Pétalos is made from Mencia from five municipalities: Corullón, Valtuille, Villadecanes, Parandones and Villafranca del Bierzo, located between 450 and 1,000 meters above sea level. The age of the vines varies from 40 to 90 years. After destemming and partial pressing, alcoholic fermentation takes place in barrels and open stainless steel vats . Maceration lasts 30 days. The wine is aged for 10 months in French oak barrels .
