Mas Amiel - Vintage Reserve 2020
Mas Amiel is located in Maury , in Roussillon . In 1816, around a gaming table, the Bishop of Perpignan was pitted against a Bridges and Roads engineer, Raymond Etienne Amiel . The man of the church ended up betting on one of his lands, named Domaine des Goudous. Luck is not on his side and the estate changes hands. The property then has 10 hectares of vines in the middle of scrubland. In 1907, Mas Amiel was taken over by Charles Dupuy who operated the estate until his death in 1916. His son Jean took over when he returned from the war. He develops and produces a natural sweet wine under the “Mas Amiel” brand. His son, Charles, continued the expansion until 1997. The estate was taken over in 1999 by Olivier Decelle . Today, the 170 hectares of vines are divided into 130 plots and the grapes are used to produce Vins Doux Naturels as well as Maury Sec , AOC recognized in 2011. The estate has been certified in organic farming since 2014 .
Mas Amiel Vintage Reserve is a Natural Sweet Wine made with the mutage technique. Mutage consists of adding alcohol to the must during vinification in order to cause fermentation to stop. The resulting wine retains a portion of natural, unprocessed sugar. This wine is entirely composed of Grenache Noir . Vinification is carried out in concrete and stainless steel vats. Halfway through the alcoholic fermentation, the must is mutated and followed by maceration for 15 to 20 days. Aging takes place in a reducing environment in barrels of 2 to 3 wines for 12 months , then in bottle.
Grape variety: 100% Grenache
