Château BEYCHEVELLE 1998
Château Beychevelle is located in Saint-Julien , in the Bordeaux wine region. It was classified as a Quatrième Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 Classification. The name Beychevelle comes from the first Duke of Epernon, a naval admiral who owned the estate in the 16th century. Ships passing on the Garonne were required to lower their sails in deference and the term “Baisse-Voile” became Beychevelle. This nautical theme extends to the ship with a griffin prow featured on the label. Today, Château Beychevelle is owned by Grands Millésimes de France, owned by the Castel and Suntory groups. The property covers 250 hectares, of which approximately 90 hectares are planted with vines. The remainder is made up of meadows with Limousin cows, pine, poplar, ash and walnut forests. The estate is managed using sustainable farming methods , with part of the vineyard being organically farmed.
Château Beychevelle 1998 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (52%), Merlot (40%) and Cabernet Franc (8%) . The wine is aged in barrels, 70% of which are new.
Grape varieties: 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc
