Domaine Combier - Clos des Grives 2022
Domaine Combier is located in the heart of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, in the Rhône Valley. The origins of the Combier family in this region date back to 1936: Camille Combier came down from his Ardèche plateau and bought a property with 3 hectares of vines and 4 hectares of apricot trees in La Roche de Glun. In the 1960s, Maurice and Paulette Combier settled as farmers in the neighboring town of Pont de l'Isère. From 1970, they were visionaries and invested all their time and money in healthy and organic cultivation in both arboriculture and viticulture. In 1990, Laurent Combier , accompanied by his wife Ghislaine , took over the estate which then had 5 hectares of vines and 15 hectares of fruit trees. Having recently graduated in viticulture-oenology, he decided, with the support of his parents, to build his own winemaking and maturing cellar. His goal is to create his vision of Crozes-Hermitage wines to reach the top, notably with Clos des Grives, a wine that is now iconic of the appellation. 25 years later, David and Julien have combined the energy, dynamism and passion of their father. The eldest, Julien, has illustrated his passion for the Crozes-Hermitage terroir, its viticultural practices and, above all, his winemaking spirit since 2014. David, the youngest, has recently taken up his place at the estate. His marketing and winemaking experiences in the largest wine-growing regions of the world bring a fresh vision and the bite that comes from youth. The vineyard covers 25 hectares and all plantings and replantings are mass selection to preserve the typicality of the grape varieties. The estate is certified in organic farming .
Clos des Grives has become one of the benchmarks among the great wines of the northern Rhone Valley. This vintage is made from a plot of Syrah , whose vines are around 60 years old. After manual harvesting and selective sorting, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel vats. The aging lasts 12 months in Burgundy barrels (new to 3 years old) then the wine is aged for an additional 12 months in bottles.
Grape variety: 100% Syrah
