Château Gilette - Head Cream 1976
Château Gilette is located in Preignac, in the Sauternes appellation of the Bordeaux wine region. It is owned by the Gonet-Médeville family . The Médeville family originated from Cadillac-sur-Garonne, in the Cadillac and Loupiac appellations. With the marriage of Numa Médeville and Marie Despujols (heiress of the Château Gilette estate and the neighboring Justices site, owned by her family since 1710), the Médeville family established itself in Sauternes in the 19th century. Château Gilette and the other family properties (which include Château Respide-Médeville in Graves, Château des Eyrins in Margaux, and Cru Monplaisir in Bordeaux Supérieur) are run by husband-and-wife team Julie and Xavier Gonet-Médeville. Xavier Gonet, originally from Champagne, also established their eponymous estate in Champagne.
Château Gilette Sauternes is unique. Its history dates back to the Second World War, during which René Médeville decided not to touch the vats during this entire period. Upon his return, having neither bottles nor barrels, he left the wine in vats for 27 years before bottling. Today, Château Gilette wines are aged in concrete vats for 18 to 20 years .
