Elio Sandri - Barolo Riserva - Perno 2018
Elio Sandri is located in Monteforte d'Alba, Piedmont , Italy . Elio Sandri's vineyard was planted as early as the 1400s, and his family has been growing grapes on the steep hillsides since the late 1800s. from Disa to Monforte d'Alba. The producer has a deep knowledge of the terroir and his winemaking style adapts accordingly. The long history of the vineyards allows fermentation by indigenous yeasts. Each stage of the winemaking is slow and gentle, which which allows for the use of very low levels of sulfur and no other additions. The wines are made with minimal intervention and fermented in concrete vats or large-format traditional oak barrels. No new oak barrels are used.
Barolo Perno is made from Nebbiolo grapes from vineyards located in the Perno area, in the municipality of Monforte d'Alba. These vineyards are grown on limestone and clay soils, facing southwest, at an altitude of between 250 and 500 meters above sea level. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature for approximately 25 days, followed by aging for at least 5 years and 2 months , including a minimum of 18 months in Slavonian oak barrels . After bottling, the wine rests in the cellar for at least a year before being marketed.
