Franz Hirtzberger - Ried Kirchweg Grüner Veltliner Smaragd 2023
Weingut Franz Hirtzberger is located in Spitz in the Wachau region of Austria . Founded in the late 19th century by Franz Hirtzberger, the estate is now run by the fifth generation of the family. The estate is located in the far west of the region, an area influenced by the cold winds blowing from the northern mountains. The vineyard covers 15 hectares, divided between Riesling and Grüner Veltliner, with smaller plots planted with Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, and Chardonnay. Its wine range is particularly renowned for its premium wines, labeled Smaragd , including the famous Grüner Veltliner Honivogl and Riesling Singerriedel, one of Austria's most renowned Rieslings.
Ried Kirchweg is one of the oldest vineyards in the Wachau, where the vines grow on loess soils. The Grüner Veltliner grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged in classic 3,000- to 5,000-liter wooden vats.
