Domaine Vacheron - Sancerre Red 2023
Domaine Vacheron is located in Sancerre , in the Loire Valley. The family estate, established by Maurice Vacheron in the early 1900s, is now run by third-generation winemaking cousins Jean-Laurent and Jean-Dominique Vacheron . Since 2004, the 48-hectare estate has been farmed using certified biodynamic methods . This shift to biodynamic practices was made to allow Sancerre's distinct terroirs to be showcased in the wines; Domaine Vacheron is planted on flinty, clay-limestone soils topped with flint. In the vineyard, everything is hand-harvested, and the only fertilizer allowed is compost. In the winery, vats are the primary fermentation vessel, while a minimal amount of oak is used on some plots.
Sancerre Rouge is produced from Pinot Noir plots located half on flint and half on limestone terroirs. The average age of the vines is around thirty years, with the oldest dating back to 1960.
Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir
