Guiseppe Quintarelli - Valpolicella Classico Superiore - 16.5% 2010
A true legend of Italian viticulture, Giuseppe Quintarelli is considered the father of Amarone , this famous wine from the Veneto region.
Died in 2012, the man has marked generations of winemakers, including Romano Dal Forno, and leaves behind a considerable legacy that his family perpetuates while respecting the tradition and style developed by the maestro. The history of the estate dates back to 1924 when Silvio Quintarelli created his own estate. His youngest son, Giusepppe, will take over the torch in the 1950s. From then on, he will work tirelessly with passion, making every effort to raise the estate's wines to the highest level.
The Giuseppe Quintarelli estate is located in the village of Negrar , on the hills north of Verona, in the heart of the Valpolicella region ( Valley of the Many Cellars in Latin), in the province of Veneto, northern Italy . Located at an altitude of 500 meters, the vineyard covers 12 hectares for an annual production limited to 60,000 bottles. The Giuseppe Quintarelli estate has gained a reputation for its legendary Amarone della Valpolicella Classico, Recioto and cult wine, Alzero .
Known for being a great perfectionist, Giuseppe Quintarelli focused on producing only substandard wines, marketed in limited quantities after long years of aging. After the appassimento , a traditional technique of drying berries on racks, the wine is pressed and then aged in Slavonian oak barrels for 7 years for the Amarone Classico Superiore , 10 years for the Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva . According to an uncompromising code of conduct, the estate does not market Amarone when the quality is deemed insufficient. An ardent supporter of tradition, the Quintarelli estate resists the sirens of marketing and has no website or social media.
Excellence, tradition, patience are the values reflected in the wines of the Quintarelli estate, known for their unique style, bearing the identity imprint that the maestro has been able to give. Banner of the Quintarelli estate, the Amarone marvels at its softness, elegance and length in the mouth.
