Château D'YQUEM (without labels) 1936
Château d'Yquem is one of the legendary wines, known by their name and carrying a unique imprint that makes all the style of Yquem. The legend of this exceptional Sauternes wine has been built over 400 years of history. Thanks to the archives of the castle and the Gironde, writings already attest to the use of particular care of the vines and late harvests in Yquem from the end of the 16th century. The château then the vineyard with a selection of plots will be gradually built up under the influence of the Sauvage family. Françoise Joséphine d'Yquem married Count Louis Amédée de Lur-Saluces in 1785. Following her death three years later, she took over the head of the estate, gradually raising the Château d'Yquem to the rank of a property with a reputation without borders .
All the work of the Lady of Yquem will be rewarded posthumously. In 1855, Château d'Yquem will be the only property recognized as the one and only Premier Cru Supérieur in the official classification established at the request of the Emperor Napoleon III for the Paris Universal Exhibition. Château d'Yquem will enter a new era with the acquisition of the property by the LVMH Moët Hennessy-Louis Vuitton group.
Of the 113 hectares of the Château d'Yquem vineyard, only around 100 are in production, Sémillon representing the majority of the grape varieties (75%), supplemented by Sauvignon blanc (25%). Château d'Yquem enjoys an exceptional micro-climate where the Ciron, a small left tributary of the Garonne, plays a determining role in the development of noble rot. It is thanks to the morning mists of autumn that Botritys cinerea can settle on the bunches, drying them out to concentrate the sugars and aromas.
Château d'Yquem is recognized for its mastery of the harvest by successive sorting. From grapes to bottling, making a Sauternes wine from Château d'Yquem illustrates a know-how requiring an extremely long process, with constant attention and meticulousness.
With a yield limited to one glass per vine, Château d'Yquem is a Sauternes wine whose rarity makes the prestige recognizable by its unique aromatic expression, texture and length in the mouth. The young vintages show off the expressiveness of fruity notes, on aromas of apricot, orange, sometimes evolving into woody notes of vanilla or toast of toast, to evolve into a light spicy touch of cinnamon, saffron and licorice. Cut for cellaring, the Sauternes de Château d'Yquem evolves sumptuously, evolving on delicious aromas of dried and candied fruits, delicately chiseled by the freshness of the floral notes. Harmony, balance, complexity and finesse,
Sauternes from Château d'Yquem is a style in its own right.
