Château GISCOURS 1996
The history of Château Giscours, located in the Margaux appellation, dates back to the 14th century: in 1552, Pierre de Lhomme, a rich Bordeaux clothier, bought the noble house of “Guyscoutz” and built a vast estate around it and planted the very first vines. In 1995, Eric Albada Jelgersma, a Dutch businessman took over the operation and undertook meticulous work to restore the vineyard and renovate the buildings to restore the nobility of this Third Classified Growth of 1855.
Today, the vineyard covers 94 hectares with a planted grape varieties of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot.
Giscours 1996 comes from a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Vinification begins in concrete and stainless steel tanks for 18 to 28 days, then the aging is made 100% in French oak barrels (50% new and 50% barrels of a wine) and lasts from 15 to 18 months.
