Domaine de Courcel - Pommard 1er Cru - Grand Clos des Epenots 2009
The Domaine de Courcel is located in the commune of Pommard in the Côte de Beaune, in Burgundy. The estate has four Premier Cru climats planted exclusively with Pinot Noir: Le Grand Clos des Epenots, Les Rugiens, Les Frémiers and Les Croix Noires. Domaine de Courcel has belonged to the Courcel family since the 17th century. Today, the 10.5 hectares of vines on the estate are under the responsibility of Anne Bommelaer and Marie de Courcel. All cultivation techniques are made according to organic farming for land and environmental respect.
The Grand Clos des Epenots is a monopole of the Domaine. This 4.89-hectare enclosure is located north of Pommard, at the beginning of the slope and facing east-west, and is planted with vines of around sixty years on average. The Grand Clos des Epenots represents half of the total production of the domain.
The vinification takes place over a month. After careful sorting, the whole bunches are placed in the vats. Cold maceration, followed by fermentation at low temperature, allows better extraction of the aromas. Frequent punching down and pumping over are carried out. A post-fermentation carbonic maceration is then carried out. Aging takes place in carefully selected oak barrels, the stock of which is renewed by thirds each year. After thorough extraction of about one month, the wines are aged over a period of 21 to 23 months.
Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir
