Alvaro Palacios - Camins del Priorat - Assemblage 2019
Alvaro Palacios is a wine producer famous for its Garnacha-based wines (Grenache Noir) from Priorat, in Spain. Founded in 1990 by Alvaro Palacios himself, the estate has been at the forefront of Priorat's fame as one of the most prestigious wine regions in Spain. Alvaro Palacios grew up in Rioja where his family makes wines under the name Palacios Remondo. After working in Pétrus and Pomerol, he bought his own vineyard in the then obscure region of Priorat, where steep slate-based hillsides covered with gnarled vines had been forgotten in the second half of the 20th century. Alvaro Palacios quickly expanded his estate and now owns several wineries in the area. In his wines, Grenache is predominant but is often complemented by Cariñena, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Finca Dofí cuvée comes from a single vineyard, while Gratallops, Les Terrasses and Camins del Priorat all come from several vineyards in Priorat.
Camins del Priorat 2019 is a blend of Garnacha (35%), Syrah (24%), Cabernet Sauvignon (17%), Cariñena (11%), Merlot (10%) and 3% other varieties. The grape varieties used for the elaboration of Camins del Priorat come from eight different Priorat vineyards, located on steep terraces of slate licorella. The fruit is completely destemmed and a gentle crushing is carried out before a maceration of 30 days and an aging of 4 to 6 months in barrels and wooden vats.
Grape varieties: 35% Garnacha, 24% Syrah, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cariñena, 10% Merlot, 3% other varieties.
