ABERLOUR - 18 ans - First Fill Sherry Hogshead - French Connections - 62.6%
Aberlour is located in the Speyside region of Scotland, in the village of the same name which means "mouth of the chattering burn" in Gaelic. James Fleming founded Aberlour Distillery in 1879, choosing a location that not only provided a sure supply of pure spring water that flowed over the pink granite of Ben Rinnes, but also a place rooted in ancient times and noted for its magical relationship with water. In 1898, the distillery was ravaged by fire. The reconstruction was made by famous architect Charles Doig and enabled to double the production capacity in 1974, going from 2 to 4 stills. Pernod Ricard acquired the company in 1975 and is managed within their Chivas Brothers subsidiary.
The four stills now produce 3,500,000 litres a year. During the spirit still distillation, the stillman draws off the colourless new make spirit in three fractions: the head, heart and tail. Only the delicately berry-flavoured heart goes into the spirit receiver for maturation into Aberlour Single Malt. The head and tail fractions are returned to the still to be distilled again.
This small batch is a La Maison du Whisky exclusive. The Single Malt was distilled in 2002 and aged for 18 years in 1st fill Sherry hogshead. This Single Cask (#2575) produced 252 bottles.
