ZORAH - Voski 2018
Zorah Wines is located in the rural village of Rind, in the heart of Vayots Dzor in Armenia. The vineyards, managed with sustainable agriculture, benefit from a microclimate; long dry summers with vivid sunlight, coupled with high daytime temperatures contrasting cool nights and a lengthy growing season. Working uniquely with ancient native varieties the vines are planted on their own roots directly into rocky, limestone soils which have never seen Phylloxera. The estate was founded by Zorik Gharibian, originally from Armenia, who realised that his country had a deeply rooted wine culturethat seemed to have died out after years of Soviet rule and therefore changed his mind about buying a vineyard in Tuscany to return to his ancestral roots.
Voskì, meaning « Gold », pays homage to two distinct native Armenian grape varieties: Voskeat and Garandmak. The grapes for Voskì are sourced from old vineyards at altitudes of 1400 meters from vines grown on original ungrafted roots. Fermentation occurs in large, temperature controlled concrete vats which are left rough deliberately to favour micro oxygenation using only natural yeast. Aging then continues in concrete vats for 11 months with further 6 months in bottle.
