Château LA TOUR DE BY 1997
Château La Tour de By is located in Bégadan, in the Médoc region of Bordeaux. Before 1876, La Tour de By was called La Roque de By where vines had been cultivated there for several centuries. In December 1965, a small group of returnees from Tunisia (Messrs Pagès, Lapalu and Cailloux) in search of a terroir with great potential discovered La Tour de By and acquired it. In 1966, Marc Pagès met Professor Émile Peynaud, a renowned oenologist, and called on his friend to oversee the process of making his wines. He quickly became the first consultant oenologist of Château La Tour de By. In 1999, Marc Pagès, an agricultural engineer by training, became the sole owner, with his children, of Château La Tour de By. Cru Bourgeois in 1932, Château La Tour de By was promoted to the rank of Cru Bourgeois Supérieur on the occasion of the 2003 classification. In 2005, the transmission was established with the eldest of his grandsons, Frédéric Le Clerc. Since 2015, Château La Tour de By has been certified High Environmental Value Level 3.
Château La Tour de By is a predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon blend, with Merlot and Petit Verdot. In the winery dating from 1910, wooden and stainless steel vats equipped with automated thermoregulation are used, allowing vatting for 3 to 5 weeks during alcoholic fermentation. For 12 months, the wine then ages in the aging cellar, half buried and perfectly air-conditioned, in oak barrels, renewed by a third each year.
