Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe - Châteauneuf du Pape 2019
Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe is located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, in the Southern Rhône. The domaine was established by Hippolyte Burnier and released its first wine in 1900. The Brunier family also produces wine under the label Massaya from the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon. It has grown to become one of the largest land owners in Châteauneuf-du-Pape with almost 100 hectares. The estate’s vineyards (60 years-old on average) are planted on the celebrated Plateau of La Crau, a site renowned for grape-growing in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Sustainable grape-growing is carried out throughout the estate.
Le Vieux Télégraphe Rouge is a blend of Grenache Noir (65%), Mourvèdre (15%), Syrah (15%), Cinsault, Clairette and other grape varieties (5%). The harvest is manual with double sorting in the vineyard, followed by a third sorting in the cellar. The grapes are lightly crushed and the destemming is selective. Fermentation is traditional, it lasts 30 to 40 days in stainless steel vats and wooden vats. The wine is aged for 20 to 22 months in French oak barrels of 60 hectoliters. It is released at 2 years.
