Domaine du Coulet - Matthieu Barret - Billes Noires 2015
Domaine du Coulet is located in Cornas, in the Rhône Valley. It has belonged to Matthieu Barret since 1998. He offers two distinct ranges of wines which are produced on the same convictions: the “Domaine” range which comes exclusively from grapes from the Domaine du Coulet vineyard, very oriented on the expression of minerality and of the terroirs of Cornas. His other range, Matthieu Barret SARL, is based on sharing with other producers. The way to create the different selections is multiple and depends on its partners, their desires and the purpose which must be as close as possible to the vineyard. The vines are cultivated organically and biodynamically.
Billes Noires is made from Syrah whose vines are 65 years old, grown on granite soil at an altitude of 320 meters. The harvest is destemmed then punched down once a day during fermentation which lasts 3 weeks. No input is added. The wine is aged for 12 months in 10-year-old barrels of 400 and 500 liters, and 1 year in ovoid concrete vats and diamond vats. To be enjoyed 5 years following the vintage.
Grape variety: 100% Syrah
