RHUM CLEMENT - Rhum Blanc - Canne Bleue - Millésime 2021 - 50%
Habitation Clément is located in Le François, Martinique. The rum factory was created by Homère Clément in 1887 when he bought an estate at the peak of the sugar crisis. At that time, Homère Clément was a very popular member of the Martiniquean community and the mayor of Le François. He bought the prestigious sugar plantation known as Domaine de l'Acajou. This 43-acre estate was considered one of the best sugar plantations on the island of Martinique. But as he was caught in a poor and stagnant sugar economy, he was unfortunately forced into bankruptcy. Homère Clément made the necessary investments and transformed one of the island's most prestigious sugar estates into a world-class Rhum Agricole producer. He brought the planters back to the fields to harvest the sugar cane again, but not to refine the sugar. His idea was to squeeze the sugar cane grown on his quality estate to extract aromatic and tasty sugar cane juice from first pressing to distill pure rum. Inspired by the great eaux-de-vie he discovered while studying in his youth in Paris, Homer imitated the distillers of the great Armagnacs of southwestern France to perfect his method of rum production known today as the name of Rhum Agricole. On the death of Charles Clément, his son, the house was bought by George-Louis and Jean-José Clément, then by GBH in 1986, which still owns it today. The distillery is now closed and turned into a museum; Clément rum is distilled at the Simon Distillery located in François, a few kilometers away, then matured in the Clément cellars.
This white rum is made from sugar cane of the “Canne Bleue” variety, harvested in 2021.
