Noon - Eclipse 2020
Noon Winery is located in McLaren Vale, in South Australia. The family wine business was established in 1976 by David Noon. The winemaking duties have been under his son’s guidance, Drew Noon, since 1996. With his wife, Raegan, they work small vineyard blocks and produce only red wines. They have 3 vineyards in McLaren Vale, and the two vineyards in Langhorne Creek are owned by their friends, the Borrett family. The estate vines are not irrigated, relying on natural rainfall to survive by having their roots through the sandy loam topsoil, deep into the cool red clay below with its life-sustaining water holding capacity.
Eclipse is a blend of Grenache (80-90%), Shiraz (10-15%) and Graciano (5-10%), all grown at the estate. The grapes are picked by hand and fermentation takes place in small open vats with manual pigeage, to help extract colour and tannins. Pressing is also done by hand, using manual basket presses which are gentle and do not extract too much bitterness or astringency. It is matured in seasoned 300-litres French and American oak barrels and large (foudre and demi-muid sized) oak casks for 18 months.
Grape varieties: 80-90% Grenache, 10-15% Shiraz, 5-10% Graciano
