Egon Müller - Le Gallais - Wiltinger Braune Kupp - Auslese 2018
Weingut Egon Müller lies in the Saar Valley subregion of the Mosel in Germany . The estate was created in 1797, when Jean-Jacques Koch bought the Scharzhof farm from the French Republic. His daughter married Felix Müller and the estate has remained in the same family ever since. The current owner is Egon Müller IV , who studied at the top wine university in Geisenheim. A large part of the Scharzhofberg vineyard (8.5 hectares), located on the south-facing gray schist hillsides behind the Scharzhof house and winery, forms the heart of the Egon Müller estate. He works exclusively with the Riesling grape variety and the wines are produced at different levels of maturity : Kabinett, Spätlese, Auslese, and Auslese Goldkapsel in the best years. If conditions allow, sweet Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese and Eiswein are also produced.
Weingut Le Gallais in Wiltingen was acquired by Egon III in 1954. This vineyard is made up of half a dozen smaller parcels totaling no more than 4 hectares, and includes the single vineyards of Kupp and Braune Kupp. Braune Kupp is often considered the second largest vineyard in Wiltingen (after Scharzhofberg), it is a monopoly of Le Gallais.
Auslese is made from grapes that have a must weight of 83-110 Oechsle (the hydrometric scale measuring the density of grape must) which equates to 191-260 g/L of residual sugar, and where the grapes are manually harvested with noble rot.
Varietal: 100% Riesling
