Domaine Vacheron - Sancerre Red 2020
The Domaine Vacheron is located in Sancerre , in the Loire Valley . The family property, established by Maurice Vacheron in the early 1900s, is now operated by third-generation winemaker cousins Jean-Laurent and Jean-Dominique Vacheron . Since 2004, the 48-hectare estate has been run in certified biodynamics . This switch to biodynamic practices was made to allow the distinct terroirs of Sancerre to be highlighted in the wines; Domaine Vacheron is planted on flint soils, based on clay-limestone, topped with flint. In the vineyard, everything is harvested by hand and the only fertilizer allowed is compost. In the winery, vats are the main fermentation vessel, while a minimal amount of oak is used on some plots.
The Sancerre Rouge comes from plots of Pinot Noir located half on flint soils and limestone soils. The average age of the vines is around thirty years, the oldest dating from 1960.
Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir
