D'Oliveiras - Verdelho - Madeira 2007
D'Oliveiras is located on the island of Madeira , an autonomous region of Portugal. The founders of D'Oliveiras were visionaries who saw the true value of Madeira wine: its ability to improve over time. Therefore, they started storing as much wine as possible, letting it mature slowly inside the barrels for future generations to enjoy. For this reason, D'Oliveiras is the only Madeira wine company that has bottles and barrels of Madeira wine dating back to the 1850s, which can still be purchased commercially. D'Oliveiras currently has 5 completely restored old buildings in the center of the city of Funchal. Each bottle of D'Oliveiras Madeira wine is different because it is still hand painted exactly the same as it was 100 years ago. These bottles are painted by an all-female team, a heritage that has been passed down from mother to daughter for generations.
This Colheita is a vintage Madeira , made from grapes from the 2007 vintage, made from the Verdelho variety. It is aged in barrels using the “Canteiro” technique for at least 5 years and the wine is semi-dry . The maturation process of modern Madeira wines replicates the hot, oxidative conditions the wine was subjected to when shipped in the 17th and early 18th centuries.
Grape variety: 100% Verdelho
