Hartenberg - Doorkeeper Shiraz 2020
Hartenberg is located in Stellenbosch , South Africa . The first settlers to cultivate the virgin land of the estate were friends Cunraad Boin and Christoffel Esterhuizzen, who obtained permission to work 20 hectares of land in 1692. The farm then passed through the hands of different owners. The Mackenzie family have owned the estate since 1986. Nestled in a valley on the free-draining northeast slopes of the hills from Bottelary to Stellenbosch, Hartenberg enjoys a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cold, wet winters. The vineyards face north, west and east, with grape varieties planted to take advantage of the morning or afternoon sun. There is an altitude difference of approximately 250 meters between the northern and southern vineyards. The 170 hectares are cultivated in sustainable agriculture , with respect for the environment but also the implementation of social conservation techniques.
The Doorkeeper cuvée represents the emblematic handle and key of Hartenberg's underground cellar and refers to "the entry into the world of Hartenberg wines". The Shiraz is aged for 12 months in 225-litre French oak barrels .
