Morgenster - Lourens River Valley 2013
Morgenster Estate is in Somerset West, in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa . The estate was founded by Giulio Bertrand , an Italian who fell in love with South Africa and the Cape winelands. After retiring from the textile career in 1992, he moved to South Africa and bought the Morgenster farm. He called on Pierre Lurton from Château Cheval Blanc and Château d'Yquem in Bordeaux to perfect the wine. Then, in partnership with the Olive Oil Institute of Perugia, he imports 17 varieties of specially selected olives. Of the 200 hectares of the property, 74 hectares are planted with vines and olive trees, the rest being given over to the mountains and the local fauna and flora. Today, it is the mother and daughter team, Federica and Vittoria , who carry on the legacy that Giulio Bertrand started decades ago.
