Micaela Rubio - El Reflejo de Mikaela - Bobal Cepas Centenarias 2019
One of Micaela Rubio 's estates is located in Cuença, in the Castilla Y Léon region of Spain . After traveling to the most prestigious wine regions in the world, Micaela and her partner Aurelio sought to develop their own projects in regions with great potential to produce unique wines. Thus, they also produce wine in the Sierra de Gredos appellation, from the Garnacha grape variety. In Cuença, they work with the local Bobal grape variety. Both wineries have very small productions and share the same philosophy: the areas chosen are characterized by the presence of an autochthonous variety rooted in each of them, which gives them the possibility of being able to work with old vines allowing to transmit more easily the identity of the terroir to their wines. The experience in the sector of the members of the two projects allows them to interpret the variety of each area and the soils of each plot, separating the vinifications according to the terroir of the different vineyards. They work only with their own vineyards or those managed by Aurelio and Micaela, where natural viticulture is practiced.
El Reflejo de Mikaela is produced mainly from Bobal planted with 6 to 8% white grape varieties (Albillo and Macabeo). The over 65-year-old vineyard is located near the Júcar River on deep soils of sand, gravel and rounded pebbles. The white grape varieties increase the fruity character at the same time as they reduce the tannin of Bobal. The wine is aged 14 months in French oak barrels of 225 and 500 liters (including 40% new barrels) for 70% of the volume, and the rest is aged in sandstone vats .
