The Threshold of Mazeyres 2016
Château Mazeyres is located in the Pomerol appellation, in the Bordeaux wine region. It was acquired at the beginning of the 20th century by the Querre family, which produced a fine and fruity wine designed for customers of French restaurants. In 1988, the family decided to sell the entire estate to the Caisse de Retraite de la Société Générale, which then sold it to Sogecap (life insurance branch of the same banking establishment) in 2010. In 1992, the wine engineer and oenologist Alain Moueix takes over the management of Château Mazeyres. Fourth generation of a renowned family of winegrowers and merchants from Libourne, he offers the château his commitment, his knowledge and his know-how. The area of the vineyard has been considerably increased and a reflection has been carried out on the approaches to viticulture, winemaking and aging, resulting in the modernization of the facilities. The acquisition of four additional hectares in the heart of the Pomerol appellation in 2010 brings the total area of the estate to 25.5 hectares, cultivated biodynamically since 2012 and certified since 2018.
Le Seuil de Mazeyres is the Château's second wine. The 2016 is a blend of Merlot (65%) and Cabernet Franc (35%) harvested by hand in crates. The grapes are carefully sorted upon arrival at the cellar. Fermentation takes place in concrete or stainless steel vats depending on the terroir, the age of the vines and the grape variety. The wine is aged in barrels (62%) and in vats (38%).
