Cape Clear - 3 Sq. Miles - 40%
Cape Clear is a Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking) island located off the south-west coast of County Cork in Ireland . Cape Clear Island has 130 full-time residents and its school has seven students. Several years ago, islanders got together to discuss the idea of building a distillery. The aim was to provide jobs for locals, and possibly opportunities for school children on the island as well as to produce high quality Irish spirits. They obtained their planning permission in 2016. Like many whiskey distilleries, the path to its production is to start with gin. After nearly a year of development, with input from islanders and mainland consultants, the recipe was finalized. 3 Sq. Miles Gin was first marketed in November 2019. Since then, the distillery site has been buzzing with activity.
This gin is handcrafted in small batches from Laminaria digitata (a species of brown seaweed), fuchsia and honeysuckle from the island.
