Mastroberardino - Taurasi Radici 2017
Mastroberardino is located in the Province of Avellino, in the Campania region, Italy . The Mastroberardino family has been growing vines and producing wine since the mid-18th century, for 11 generations. It was the 9th generation, Antonio Mastroberardino , who brought the winery international recognition, but his career was initially difficult. Returning home after World War II, Antonio found his family's estate in ruins; the result of war, economic depression, phylloxera and neglect. Determined to rebuild and develop the family business, he began a vast project to restore the estate and the vineyards. He spent the next decades purchasing the best vineyards in Irpinia and greater Campania, where he devoted plantings to three ancient Campanian grape varieties that had almost disappeared: Fiano, Greco and Aglianico.
Radici is a Taurasi DOCG made from Aglianico . The grapes come from the estate's two vineyards in Montemarano and Mirabella Eclano. The manual harvest takes place at the end of October and the beginning of November. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks is followed by a long maceration at controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged for 24 months in French oak barrels and Slavonian barrels , followed by a minimum maturation of 24 months in bottle . This Radici Taurasi has an aging potential of 50 years and more.
Grape variety: 100% Aglianico
